Module 1 Tasks – Traceroute
Using the link provided, I accessed the Central Ops.Net website. Once again the instructions provided by both the Module 1 curriculum and the Central Ops.Net website where extremely easy to follow and I experienced no problems in completing this task.
This is my first contact with Traceroute. I have pondered how many links information travels through to get to me and this is a simplified answer to this pondering.

Module 1 Tasks – FTP
Using the link provided for the recommended FTP Client – FTPplanet.com, I downloaded the 30 day free trial to my computer.
The instructions provided by both the Module 1 curriculum and the FTPplanet.com application where extremely easy to follow and I experienced no problems in completing this task.
This is my first contact with FTP and I found it interesting to know what is going on “behind the scenes” and that using the FTP tool was very easy.

Module 1 Tasks – Telnet
Using Google, I did a search on Windows Telnet and located the following website: www.computerhope.com/software/telnet.htm#a. I followed the instructions and was successfully able to locate Telnet on my computer.
After executing telnet through the RUN facility Telnet opened immediately. It has been some time since I have used MS-DOS and I was unsure if Telnet used the same or similar commands. From the Computerhope website I was able to ascertain the commands to help me move through Telnet.
I was impressed with Telnet in that I had learnt something new, but I admit that I am spoilt by web-based systems. With time and practice I could become more comfortable with using Telnet, but the question is why should I when web-based systems are less time consuming and more user friendly.
The time and effort contributed by Simon Jansen to the towel.blinkenlights.nl site is exceedingly … remarkable.
